Blog post 2(first day of internship)
The first day of internship, I came into the White Sea Bass Hatchery at 8:30. I checked in with some employees and they told me that Ms Mccullin was not here and out on a business trip(out of town). I than talked to an employee about my day of interning at this Hatchery. He than told me that I should come back the next day , when Ms Mccullin would be back from her trip. I than agreed with him, he than told me that when she is back it will be easier to figure out what I will be doing as an intern.

When I came back at 8:30 for my next internship day. I talked to Ms Mcculin about my hours and what I will be doing in the Hatchery. I now work Monday, Wed, and Friday. From 8:30 to around lunch time(12:30). I am working these days and hours because of different circumstances. I can only work three days of the week because that is when my mentor is working and when there is enough staff to watch over me. I also work from eight to twelve because after lunchtime my mentor just stays at least another hour of two just cleaning and fixing up a few things.
This was basically my first day of working in the White Sea Bass Hatchery. I helped with cleaning tanks, feeding fish and even helped out with a fish transport. This day I was just doing a lot of the same task with the fish tanks. But I felt I enjoyed myself and I felt it was really meaningful work. Also this day, my mentor Chris Cunningham showed me what a daily work day is for him. He walked me step to step from morning to lunch time, what his day was like and what it consisted of.
Here is a photo of the layout of the White Sea Bass Hatchery. It consist of many different sized tanks with different size/stages of the White Sea Bass. These tanks are numbered/named and have different size bass in each one. For example in this photo it is in the second room, where these White Sea Bass are much larger than in the previous room.

When I came back Friday. I came in and talked to my mentor. I got straight to work and started off my day of work. I do all the same task as my mentor and sometimes more. We usually start off with checking the water with the Bass in them(PH levels), move on to feeding them, cleaning the tanks, more task involving the fish tanks and cleaning. A lot of my task are repetitive but it does take a lot of time and patience to complete.
Some questions I have about my internship is, what is in the pellets that they feed the fish? How many eggs do the female White Sea Bass lay? What are common diseases among these fish? My job in this internship is to clean and feed fish. This is just like the job I have in Biology at school, an Aquarius. I have to clean and take care of the crayfish in my Biology class. I have learned so much about what my organization does and it is very interesting. The main purpose for my organization is to try to repopulate the number of White Sea Bass back into the sea. This is very difficult because White Sea Bass population has decreased so much in the last years that it has been hard to repopulate the number of White Sea Bass. I have talked to different employees in the Hatchery and they had told me that they are increasing the White Sea Bass population but it just takes a lot of time. Some new skills I am developing is better time management, organization and communication.

Here is a photo of the White Sea Bass in the Green house tanks. These Sea Bass are the smallest bass in the tanks. A lot of these bass have different deformations. . Some have jaw that are deformed and others have other small things that are wrong with them.
This photo is a close up picture of bigger sized White Sea Bass in a bigger tank. These are normal and healthy White Sea Bass and in this specific tank these Sea Bass like to swim in a circle around the oxygen filter.

My project I am planning on creating is a research project on fish farming and the Hubbs White Sea Bass Hatchery. I will have to do a lot of research on fish farming and more research on the White Sea Bass Hatchery. I want to talk about many different things in this project but one example of something is, how has the Hubbs White Sea Bass Hatchery affected the White Sea Bass population. Some skills I will need to complete this project and make is great is, time management, organization, research skills. I will also need to talk to my mentor and employees at the White Sea Bass Hatchery to see if all my information is correct. I can also can talk to my mentor about more information and facts about the Hatchery. I feel that if I can manage and organize my time, this project will come out great.
